Sketchbooks

Published by joetheartist

Sketchbooks for an artist are like notebooks for poets, writers, (of all types) and engineers.  It is here we put down our ideas, create layouts for paintings, or just doodle until something jumps into our mind.  Lacking anything else to sketch, we often do self-portraits:

Rachel Katie is one of my favorite subjects.  In addition to being very photogenic, clever, intelligent, and lovely - her husband purchased one of my paintings a couple of years ago.

The remaining sketches are from my front porch - I was concentrating on putting everything between the “rails.”

The young lady to the right of  Rachel is from a photo on “Facebook.”

Sketching is so important that I always have my sketchbook in the car.  Yesterday, I took my wife to her doctor’s appointment — You can see what I did in less than an hour.

Later in the day I went to a live-clothed-model session of the Transylvania Art Guild( North Carolina, USA. ) We spent about 2 hours with the model getting a break every 20 minutes.  Below are these efforts.  Sometimes I will sketch the participants painting.
